Build a batch of Gmail filters
Add several rules, review them together, then import them into Gmail in one step.
Finish at least one filter with a match and an action to export.
Use this for a batch, not one filter
Gmail's own form is simpler for one filter. Use this page when you need several rules or want to start from the recipes. If you only need to find mail once, use the Gmail search query builder instead.
How to import filters into Gmail
Import lives in Gmail settings on the web. One file can hold many filters, and Gmail adds them next to the filters you already have instead of replacing them.
- Open Gmail on the web, click the gear icon, then click "See all settings."
- Open the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and click "Import filters."
- Click "Choose File," pick the file you downloaded, then click "Open file."
- Review the filters Gmail lists. To also sort mail already in your account, check "Apply new filters to existing conversations." Then click "Create filters."
Review the list before saving. Overlapping filters will both run.
Questions, answered.
No. The builder writes the XML file in your browser. Nothing goes to us or to Google until you import the file into Gmail yourself.
